The Taxicab,
Limousine and Paratransit Association (TLPA) brought together a
large group of world taxi organisations at their Annual Convention
and Trade Show, which took place in Boston between 9-13 November at
the Sheraton Boston Hotel. A huge trade show took place next door at
the Hynes Convention Centre with over 100 exhibiters showcasing
their goods and services and where companies such as Dial-a-Cab
could see, touch and test products in person and more importantly,
meet the people behind them. Brian Rice, who represented DaC, told Call Sign: "There was an amazing variety of both soft and hardware, but quite honestly, not a lot that could improve our operation at home. Our new generation of terminal will leave everything I’ve seen here standing." So why did he go? "Well, to stay on top, you need to know what’s out there and I’d have hated to think that there was something in the marketplace that we could have used but missed because I thought we had everything we needed!" The agenda featured a series of educational seminars, roundtable discussions and presentations where those attending could learn more about a variety of industry, operational, and management

issues. Operators, such as the DaC Chairman, could
see, touch and test the products and more importantly, meet the
people behind them. The event drew over 1,000 diversified
fleet owners and managers from the United States, Canada, Europe who
shared ideas, experiences and of course, business cards! |
And did he enjoy Boston –
one of the world’s most beautiful cities? "It is a lovely place,
but in all honesty I saw most of it from the plane because the huge
distances there and back from London for such a short stay - yet
with such a packed itinerary - left me feeling worn out! But what I
saw and those I met, made it a most-definite worthwhile trip." Last year Brian was made International Vice President of the organisation, this year he has been appointed a Director. Radio Taxi’s largest shareholder, Brian McBride, replaced Jamie Campolongo – head of Pittsburgh Yellow cabs - as TLPA President. |
