DAC AT PRINCE CHARLES MEETING |
Some weeks ago DaC Board member and
Chairman of the London Taxidrivers Fund for
Underprivileged Children, Mike Son, was invited
together with John Rennie, Master of The Worshipful
Company of Hackney Carriage Drivers and LTDA
Chairman John Thomas, to Clarence House for a
meeting. They spoke with The Private Secretary to
His Royal Highness, The Prince of Wales, to discuss
an event Prince Charles wished to have organised in
celebration of the Licensed London Taxi Industry.
That event took place on 20 July at Clarence House and was in recognition of the good work of all the various charities, suppliers to the trade including manufactures, various organisation and associations, the radio taxi circuits - including the complete DaC Board of Management - plus a myriad of other representatives, including working cab drivers. Following a trip to the Hanover Square shelter where he "took tea" with several drivers including DaC’s Jon Trevor (W94), HRH |

took a £9.20 ("keep the 80p, driver") to his official London residence at Clarence House where he met 200 representatives from different facets of the Taxi trade in London. DaC Chairman Brian Rice, who was also interviewed on television about his meeting, told Call Sign that he cracked several jokes with HRH – including one where he said the Prince resembled Mike Yarwood! Brian also spoke to Camilla about the Prince’s Trust Charity. Prince Charles later said: "I must confess, this morning when I went in a taxi to Hanover Square shelter, it was |
the first time I had been in a taxi since I was very young. All I
can say is that it was a very special experience." Mike Son told Call Sign: "This was probably the first time all aspects of the taxi industry have been recognised and appreciated for the vital role it plays in the lives of those that live, work and visit London - plus the continued success of those taxi drivers and their committees that address the needs of those less fortunate in our great City." On behalf of the Taxi trade, John Thomas later presented HRH with a crystal taxi. |
