CHAIRMAN’S LETTER |
Gentlemen,
As, no doubt, you are well aware we are having a little trouble
with our new group at Kingston, but steps are being taken to see if we can find
the cure. I have recently had an interview with Mr. Collins of the P.C.O. regarding the question of our hand out cards being displayed on our taxis. Unfortunately, we have go to abide by the decision of the assistant commissioner and his ruling is that: By displaying these cards inside the cab with the price of 50/- to L.A.P on it, it firstly give the impression that that price has the blessing of the assistant commissioner, and secondly, it deprives the driver of the right to bargain for his fare. Even if we take this printed price off the card, we still will not get permission to have them inside the cab because if he gives us permission, he says, it must follow, before long, that everybody will demand this medium of advertising and once a precedent has been created he will have no ground for refusal. There you have the official verdict on this matter and at the moment, it appears to be deadlock. For the time being I should advise you all not to have cards on display in your cab, as you could leave yourselves open to a stop. J.RUSSELL, |
