TAXI DRIVER OF THE YEAR BALL - A HUGE SUCCESS! |
||
The London taxi trade used to be famous for its
social calendar, but events where you can get dressed up and go
out are now few and far between. Fortunately, the Taxi Driver
of the Year Charity Fund’s dinner and dance is still taking
place, even though there hasn’t been a Taxi Driver of the Year
for two years now! This year’s event at the Britannia International, Marsh Wall could well have been the best one yet with a full house eating, drinking and being merry. The dance floor was always full – thanks to an amazing R&B group that made The Commitments look ordinary! Every classic piece of soul from Wilson Picket to James Brown came under attack from lead singer Laura Frankel and ensured never a quiet moment. Who’d have thought Brian Rice and Roy Ellis would ever be on the same dance floor bopping away with their partners! In a nice touch, three special awards were presented for those who have helped the charity over the years. They were for Dial-a-Cab (who usually sponsor the band), KPM and Doug Sherry. Both Russell Poluck (T55) and wife Barbara can feel proud of the evening and of the large amount of money raised for trade charities. In a speech, Russell said that it was hoped the TDoY would return next year. |
