A unique parade of London Taxis – recognised
throughout the world - helped kick off the A1 Grand Prix of Nations.
The iconic taxis were chosen as a symbol of Britain, parading in
front of the crowds before the season’s World Cup of Motorsport
opening round race at the Brands Hatch circuit in Kent. Unlike F1 races, the A1 Grand Prix uses identical cars for all teams to ensure results are purely down to driver skill. Nelson Piquet Jr took the big race for A1 team Brazil followed some 12 seconds behind by Australian Will Power with Salvador Duran of Mexico in third. GB’s Robbie Kerr finished back in a disappointing sixteenth position. Piquet also took a bonus point for A1 Team Brazil by scoring the day’s fastest lap – 183.4kph.
