DAC DOUBLE AS CURLS AND AUDREY DO 20 YEARS! |
Two ladies from the Call Centre
recently celebrated their 20th
anniversaries of working with Dial-a-Cab. Both
joined on the same day – 31 January 1985. At that
time, Dial-a-Cab were still recruiting new
telephonists as we’d only been at Brunswick House
for 18 weeks - having moved from our previous
Shirland Road home on 11 August 1984 - and cousins
Curls Ambrose and Audrey Ambris were two of them.
Their previous claim to fame was being related to
West Indian pace bowler Curtley Ambrose, whose
brilliant test match career ended at The Oval
against England in September 2000. Curls – now Villiers – told Call Sign: "I’ve enjoyed all my 20 years here and even though the prime purpose is to pay the rent, it’s lovely to work in an environment where there are so many nice people." Curls started as a telephonist and moved to back channel operator when we were still on |
voice dispatch. After
you’d "claimed" your job, you went over to the BCO
to get your details. Curls is now a Night Shift
Controller. Her most pertinent memory was the day we went over to Data Dispatch from voice. "It was incredible how quiet the Call Centre became," she remembered. Audrey Ambris is now Day Shift Assistant Supervisor having also started as a telephonist. "It’s difficult to not like working at DaC because there are so many nice people here," she told Call Sign, "but I can’t believe it’s been 20 years!"
