The duo were complete unknowns in rowing circles and in winning the event, they defeated the previous year’s winners – Kingston-on-Thames, hot favourites to make it a winning double. After the event, Adam told Call Sign that because they were racing against the clock, they hadn’t realised that they’d won. "We knew we were close," he said, "but it was only when one of the more established teams came up to us and enquired just who we were that we knew we’d done more than just well!"
