DaC’s other entrant John Wells (K68) was trying out a new
gun and had a disastrous tournament, finishing bottom with an 80.
"It was awful," John told Call Sign, "I should have had much
more practice with the new gun before using it in a tournament. But
once I get used to it, the others had better watch out…"
In the meantime, we can only thank Donna for the sporting
prestige she has bought to DaC with her World Championship medals,
her captaining of England and her many successful National
Championship victories. Good luck with the degree Donna… |
Following defeat to ‘new kid on the block’ Leslie Adam, Dial-a-Cab
Call Taker and former World Championship winner, Donna Merry told
Call Sign that she was retiring from top class skeet shooting.
Donna made the trip to Lakenheath Rod and Gun Country Club in
Suffolk on July 25 to have one last go at winning the title she
relished so much following her victory two years ago in the same
event – the Dial-a-Cab European Skeet Shooting Championships.
Because of University studies for an IT degree, it was her first
competitive
event for a year and it was just the

weekend that she even had any much needed practice.
With a cloud filled sky and a real chill in the air for a July
summer’s day, Donna – cheered on by DaC
Chairman Brian Rice and Editor Alan Fisher - missed 3 shots in the
first quarter. She only missed another 2 shots in the other three
quarters, but by then Leslie Adams had finished her round and left
Donna with too much to do.
"I only have myself to blame," said Donna after the event,
"if you miss shots, you can’t expect others to miss in sympathy."
Although the winner of the High Gun was Nick Marsden, the highest
male scorer of the day was former England captain Stevie Taylor who
had earlier carded a perfect 100 score. In the Final shoot-off –
something only the DaC Championship has and which drew the highest
crowd of the day – Stevie had to face up to the highest lady
shooter, Leslie Adam. Leslie hit the clay with her first two shots
but Steve – still suffering with the remains of a flu virus – missed
first time leaving Leslie as the winner. Brian Rice presented her
