LTI EMPLOYEES SUPPORT HOSPITAL |
![]() The local police with their appeal buckets at LTI vehicles Coventry Factory. £213 was raised from the collection. LTI Vehicles employees – becoming famous for helping good causes in and around the Coventry area where the LTI factory is based - have once again dug deep to raise funds, this time in aid of a local hospital and in memory of a former local policeman who himself was planning charity events to raise funds for the George Eliot Hospital in Nuneaton. For 11 years, PC Guy Hawthorns from Bedworth station had organised and been involved with numerous events to raise funds for the hospital after being treated there following an injury he received playing rugby. PC Hawthorns tragically died while preparing for a sponsored walk in France, but 13 of his colleagues decided to take up the mantle and continue the fundraising themselves. Employees at LTI Vehicles had previously supported their efforts generously and this year another ‘bucket run’ around the Holyhead Road factory by three of the 13 bobbies to gain support for the walk around the D-Day landing sites, raised £213. The link with LTI Vehicles came about when Guy started to plan this event and approached John Owen of LTI about the possibility of a re-visit. John told Call Sign: "The workforce at LTI have been very touched by PC Hawthorns’ tragic tale and once again responded very generously to the efforts of his colleagues." The Normandy walk took place from 12 - 16 July. Anyone wishing to make a donation can contact Derek Berry at Nuneaton Police Station on 02476 641 111 extension 3136. |
